
Amateur Golf title up for grabs at Nyali Open

The Mombasa event brings to a close the 22-leg championship
Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) heads to Nyali Golf and Country Club on 11 and 12 December for the final event of the 22-leg series that began with the Sigona Bowl earlier in the year.
Three golfers, leader Adel Balala second placed Michael Karanga and John Lejirma are fighting for the overall title. With the winner assured of a ticket to the Magical Kenya Open set for 2-6 March 2022, Karanga will be hoping to clinch the title seeing as the other two have already booked their ticket to European Tour extravaganza.
Boasting home course advantage in Nyali, Balala leads the standings at 694.6 points having won five of the 22 evets, with Karanga 26.6 points adrift in second place. Lejirma is in third place at 575 but has already secured his Kenya Open ticket.
Balala won the Kenya Amateur Stroke-Play in Nakuru while Lejirma won the Match-play title at Muthaiga. Karanga, on his part has amassed the highest number of points at 842.6 having won the two tournament-opening events at Sigona and Mt Kenya Championships held in Nyeri.
He also lifted the title at the Limuru Open and Brackenhurst Trophy before his fourth victory in the Tea Fields Trophy in Kericho.
Up to six amateurs are invited to feature in the Magical Kenya Open main event that attracts an average field of 156 golfers.
In the 2020 edition of the Open Vet Lab Sports Club’s Isaac Makokha, who was the Kenya Amateur Match Play champion, Jay Sandhu who was the Kenya Amateur Stroke Play champion, Limuru's Paul Muchangi as well as Tanzania's Victor Joseph featured. Another junior, Mutahi Kibugu withdrew and his place taken by Balala.
